Croissance en Tunisie
La croissance s’établit à 3,62% pour les 9 premiers mois de 2005

Les prévisions tablaient sur une croissance de 5% pour l’année 2005 de l’économie tunisienne.
Mais selon les derniers chiffres disponibles à l’INS (Institut National de la Statistique), pour les 9 premiers mois de l’année 2005, la croissance n’a été que de 3,62%.
Voici en détails comment se sont comportés les différents secteurs d’activité :
- La croissance du secteur des services a été de 7,69%, montrant ainsi le poids de plus en plus important de ce secteur dans l’économie tunisienne, d’autant plus qu’il accapare désormais plus de 50% de la population active et réalise 40,5% du PIB.
- Le secteur énergétique fait une croissance de 2,6%.
- On note également une stagnation du secteur de l’industrie, puisque, malgré la croissance de 10% de la plus-value des industries électriques et électromécaniques, le secteur n’a enregistré qu’une croissance de 0,53% due essentiellement au recul du textile et des industries alimentaires de 4% chacun.
- Pour sa part, l’agriculture et de la Pêche reculent de 2,33%.
En somme, une année 2005 plus difficile que prévue, et contrastée, puisqu’on peut remarquer 2 bonnes nouvelles, à savoir une croissance soutenue du secteur des services et celui du tourisme, d’un côté, mais aussi 2 nouvelles moins bonnes, le début de la crise du textile (le démantèlement des accords multifibres est passé par-là) et la hausse du prix des hydrocarbures sur le plan international.
Cependant, il reste évident qu’il y a une marge de progression des secteurs des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la communication (NTIC), des services, du tourisme et celui de l’agriculture. D’où la nécessité de réorienter les efforts vers ces secteurs, sans oublier l’accélération de rythme des privatisations là où c’est nécessaire.

Governorate of Sousse
Introduction
Located on the northern coastline of the wider Tunisian Sahel region, the governorate of Sousse runs 75 km along the Mediterranean shore. It is bounded by the governorates of Nabeul to the north, Zaghouan and Kairouan to the west and Mahdia to the south. Its climate is mild in both summer and winter because of its closeness to the sea.
Human resources
The Sousse governorate has a population of 546,400 (July 2004), which is highly urbanized (78.5%) and very dense. Its workforce in employment is 153,000, most of which is distributed over agriculture (7.1%), manufacturing industries (31.7%), services (32.6%) and administration (13.9%).
Sousse has the country’s third university complex, coming after those of Tunis and Sfax, with 15 higher education institutions providing tuition to some 26,000 students enrolled in science, economics, arts, technology and computer engineering. These institutions are

Infrastructure
The region’s infrastructure is modern and varied:
The Monastir airport is 15 km (15 minutes’ drive) away from Sousse.
The imminent opening of the new international airport at Enfidha (a district 40 km away from the city of Sousse) will provide a second means of access to the governorate by air.
The Tunis-Sousse-Msaken motorway: Sousse is 140 km from Tunis and 127 km from Sfax.
A large commercial port fostering the growth of import and export trade.
A railway line linking Sousse to the country’s major cities.
A streetcar line serving the whole coastal Sahel region.
This governorate has 5 industrial estates: Sidi Abdelhamid, Kalaâ Kebira, Enfidha, Bouficha and Kondar, and 2 other areas developed by private operators. Rentals for industrial premises range from TND 12 to TND 30 per sq. m.
A technological park, projected under the 10th Economic Development Plan, should help firms improve their competitiveness in world markets.
A modern and diversified Telecommunications network in line with the new information and communication technologies.
Major business activities
The industrial fabric boasts 528 local and foreign enterprises (with 10 or more employees), of which 273 are exclusively export-oriented, working mainly in textiles and clothing (35.6%), agroindustries (15.1%), and the mechanical and electrical sector (15.6%).
There are also 302 firms with foreign equity holdings, operating in the sectors of tourism, industry, farming, and services.
A banking and financial services network is well established throughout the region, with 59 bank branches.
The Sousse governorate is Tunisia’s second tourist destination, with a diversified up-to-date infrastructure including varied and comfortable hotel units (115 hotels, with an accommodation capacity of 40,000 beds), attractive recreational facilities (a marina, a golf course, a thalassotherapy center, a casino), and two new tourist development zones (Hergla and Bouficha) with an overall accommodation capacity of over 20,000 beds .
Besides olive growing (there are 4 million olive trees), the Sousse governorate is also known for its pomegranates and cattle and sheep breeding. In addition, fishing is a major activity.
